Teaching writing is my passion. I promise that you'll be a different writer in June than you were in September. Here are just a few of the genres of writing we'll do this year...
Writer's Notebook-you'll keep a Writer's Notebook filled with pages of your writing life. Stories, poems, essays, writing tips. It will become the most valuable notebook you'll keep!
Memoir-you're never too young to write your memoir. If you don't know what that is, you will soon!
Historical Fiction-similar to a personal narrative, only you create the character and put him or her in an historical time period.
Literary Essay-you'll be doing this type of writing throughout your schooling. You learn this writing style so that you can rock any literary essay ever assigned!
Explanatory Essays-another assignment you'll get as long as you are a student in any school. You'll learn to write a claim, support your ideas with evidence, analyze your evidence and write a thoughtful conclusion.
Argumentative Essays-Similar to explanatory, only this time you get to argue for something you believe in. Don't have a cell phone? Want to stay up later? Does a social issue make you angry, like poverty or animal abuse? Make us feel what you feel in an argumentative (or persuasive) essay.
Informational Website Writing-In the spring, you'll choose a cause you care about and create the coolest teen activist website ever!
Poetry-I believe that good writers use poetic elements in every genre of writing. With poetry, you learn to paint a picture in the reader's mind with similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration and more.
Your Writing Portfolio-Throughout the year, you'll compile an amazing list of writing and showcase it in your Writing Portfolio. This portfolio is so cool because it will show the world how much you are learning and what a great writer you are becoming.
